CMD Ltd, the specialist in power distribution systems, workstation power and monitor arms, has launched a rapid ordering service for its Betatrak® underfloor powertrack distribution systems and accessories, with a commitment to delivering within 48-hours of an approved purchase order*.

The service enables customers to order up to 50 lengths of Standard or Clean Earth (C/E) low noise Betatrak, along with up to 25 feed units and 10 flexible corner kits, and includes delivery scheduling to a nominated address. The new service comes as the construction sector continues to grapple with supply chain challenges and extended lead times, with many electrical installations stalling due to product delays.

Stephen Roberts, Head of Sales at CMD explains: “Many projects are still catching up due to the pandemic and often new projects have a rapid start on site, so electrical contractors need product quickly. Our goal is always to work in partnership with electrical wholesalers and contractors to help them overcome challenges – we do that through market-focused product development but also by tailoring our service around our customers’ operational needs.

“As a UK manufacturer with plenty of stockholding capacity, CMD is able to offer this new 48-hour service and we are certain that it will provide a lifeline to contractors who might otherwise have to face costly delays while waiting for powertrack.”

The new 48-hour service means that purchase orders received before 12pm Monday – Friday will be scheduled for same day dispatch, while those received after 12pm will be dispatched the following day. All standard lengths of Standard and Clean Earth (C/E) low noise Betatrak are included in the 48-hour commitment, but there is a minimum order quantity of 10 lengths when ordering 3.6m lengths of Betatrak.

CMD will process purchase orders for the rapid service in the order in which they are received, and the 48-hour service level commitment is only valid for one purchase order per customer within any 48-hour period.

“We have been very focused on ensuring that we offer a fair and transparent rapid service when developing this 48-hour service level agreement,” Stephen adds, “because the idea is that we support all customers, no matter where they may be located, how long they have been a customer, or what volume of product they have bought from us in the past.

“All we require is that customers complete an authorised purchase order, abide by the maximum order quantities and either have an active, in credit account, or cleared funds with us.”

CMD is thought to be the first power distribution manufacturer to offer a 48-hour turnaround on a powertrack system, which is increasingly the system of choice for commercial installations. The company’s power distribution range also includes the CMD Power Hub system, which provides an alternative to Betatrak for buildings where the floor void is limited or uneven.

Stephen adds: “Betatrak has been designed to be fast and simple to install and, with this new rapid service it’s also fast and simple to procure too.”

We have invested in a new £1/4m TRUMPF CNC metal punch as part of an asset renewal strategy for our UK manufacturing capability. The new machine will be used in the production of a wide variety of our power distribution systems and workstation power products at our Rotherham factory.

Suitable for handling sheet metal between 0.9mm and 3.0mm thick, the new machine will replace one of two existing CNC machines, while the other legacy machine remains in service, ensuring uninterrupted production of our power distribution systems and workstation power modules while the new asset is installed and commissioned. Once the old machine has been fully decommissioned, it will be shipped to new owners in Lithuania.

The CNC metal punching machines are used in the production of a wide variety of CMD products, including our Power Hub underfloor power distribution system, floor boxes and grommets and many of the brackets and components across the power distribution and workstation power range.

Roger Byrne, Head of Manufacturing at CMD Ltd explains, “To maintain the quality of our output and ensure we have the capacity and resilience to provide uninterrupted, reliable supply to our customers, we are retiring our old CNC machine to make way for a new model. The new asset will require less maintenance and ensure rapid availability of any spare parts, reducing the risk of unplanned downtime and ensuring we continue manufacturing at full capacity to meet demand for the electrical fit out and commercial interiors markets.”

The new TRUMPF CNC Machine will be both quieter and more energy efficient, contributing to our environmental goals and ISO 9001 accredited quality systems. A full summary of the new machine’s features and capabilities is outlined in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHbgO8A_zO4

Two new operators have been appointed to our existing CNC team and they will all undergo four days of external training provided by TRUMPF.

General Manager of CMD Ltd, Jon Holding adds: “Our commitment to customers is to provide innovation, quality and reliability of supply for connected workspace environments. Replacing our equipment before it reaches the end of its service life is a key element in delivering that promise.

“This investment will help us maintain high standards of quality and consistent output across our power distribution systems, floor boxes, grommets and workstation power modules and we will continue to prioritise the efficiency of our UK manufacturing operations to ensure we remain a trusted supply chain partner.”

CMD Ltd has released a new catalogue, providing an easy to follow technical guide to our power distribution systems and plug and play desk modules.

Detailing CMD’s full range of UK-manufactured power distribution systems and plug and play desk modules, the catalogue will be a helpful source of information to M&E engineers and contractors alike to understand how our power distribution systems connect together and deliver technical specification and compliance for connected workspace environments.

Available to download, the new brochure has been designed for use as a support document for product specification. It has been updated to make it easier to navigate, with product information split into two sections: power distribution, including Betatrak® powertrack underfloor busbar and Power Hub, and workstation power, including under and on desk plug and play power modules.  The brochure includes useful information on technical and regulatory guidance for power distribution installations in commercial environments, along with sample workstation schematics, delivering a complete visual guide to the turnkey power distribution solutions offered by CMD.

Jon Holding, general manager of CMD Ltd commented: “We have lots of product information available on our website but it’s often helpful for specifiers to have all the power distribution systems information they need collated in a single document, which they can reference when specifying, purchasing or liaising with our team.

“We are proud to be a company that doesn’t just offer products; we provide power distribution solutions, backed by expertise and UK manufacturing capabilities. Our new catalogue provides an educational tool that demystifies power distribution systems for industry professionals, helping us deliver our goal of connecting power, people and organisations and delivering agile working environments.”

CMD Ltd, specialist in workplace connectivity and ergonomic solutions, has provided a flexible and high-quality power distribution network for The Ray, a prestigious office development in London’s Farringdon.

Well-known for being the former site of The Guardian newspaper, The Ray now stands as an 83,000ft² office development characterised by a modernised warehouse aesthetic, with level two now occupied by a global social media company.

The electrical installation of level two for the social media company was carried out by contractor Moyne London, working for developer, Viridis Real Estate. The project began as a standard plug and play installation to take the power distribution network to workstations and a number of phone booth style meeting pods. After the hiatus of the pandemic and considering the company’s changing requirements to accommodate social distancing, the layout had to be restructured quickly and efficiently. Working collaboratively alongside Moyne London, CMD Ltd provided their 63A Betatrak underfloor powertrack power distribution system, which includes a click fit method for quick installation and a capacity to configure around bends and corners, which makes it very versatile. Moyne London also used CMD Ltd’s Rotasoc under desk modules which can be easily altered due to their modular design and 3600 continuous rotation with a 32A internal busbar.

Peter Goode, contracts manager at Moyne London comments: “The flexibility of the Betatrak underfloor powertrack and CMD’s customer service both paid dividends when the layout was changed mid-project. We were able to alter the location and number of tap offs, grommets and floor boxes to suit the new workstation arrangements. CMD worked with us to revise the installation quickly so that we were able to make up for lost time straight away.”

CMD Ltd, the specialist in power and connectivity solutions for commercial environments, has launched a Schuko version of its popular fixed format Capsule workstation power module for export to mainland Europe and beyond.

A popular on desk power module comprising two sockets and dual USB (type A and C) chargers, CMD’s Capsule unit is already widely specified in the UK as an off-the-shelf workstation power solution with a three-day turnaround from stock. CMD already supplies projects across Europe with its range of customisable workstation power units, including Contour, Harmony and Conti, all of which can be specified with Schuko sockets. The launch of the Capsule Schuko unit is the first time the widely used socket type will be available in an on desk fixed format module from CMD, for rapid dispatch to any location.

Stephen Roberts, head of sales at CMD Ltd explains: “The Schuko style socket originated in Germany but is now used in more than 40 countries across the continent and beyond, including most of Scandinavia, Russia, Turkey and as far as North Africa. We already serve those markets with our customisable workstation power units, enabling us to offer a complete, specification-led solution for both under desk and on desk connectivity.

“With the launch of the Capsule Schuko unit, we’re adding to that capability with an off-the-shelf product that wholesalers can keep in stock and we can dispatch quickly, at volume, for customers looking for a compact and standardised solution.”

Available in a choice of black and white, this stylish module comes complete with matching C clamp fixing for on desk installation.  Capsule Schuko features a socket at each side of the unit with central USB chargers, providing a convenient workstation solution that enables on desk power connection for multiple devices at once.

Stephen adds: “The Capsule workstation power module has been very popular in the UK for both home offices and commercial developments. It therefore made sense to create a version for export. We already have strong international customer networks and the Schuko version of Capsule is part of our commitment to ongoing product development.”cmd plugs in to european opportunity with schuko capsule unit launch

CMD Ltd, the specialist in ergonomic and connectivity solutions for commercial interiors, has completed its Reach monitor arm range with the launch of the Reach Plus.

Available in single or dual screen options, the Reach Plus has been designed to provide an ideal solution for both single and dual screen workstation configurations, or can be used with next generation of large format curved screens. Suitable for a total combined screen weight of 6kg to 15kg, the Reach Plus monitor arm has been designed to allow two screens to be perfectly aligned side by side with no gap, maximising space at the workstation and enabling a neater, more aesthetically pleasing set-up.

The Reach Plus has been developed with ergonomics and ease of use in mind. Designed with a quick release VESA and top-fixing C-clamp, it is quick and easy to install.  Each VESA head can be individually adjusted to enable the end user to set it in the correct position and the monitor features a handle that allows both monitors to be moved in unison without affecting alignment.

Available in a choice of silver, black or white, the Reach Plus complements the Reach and Reach HD models in CMD Ltd’s monitor arm range and enables specifiers to co-ordinate their choice of monitor arm with the office interior or workstation colour.

Jon Holding, General Manager of CMD Ltd comments: “Our Reach monitor arms are a very popular choice and we wanted to build on their benefits by creating a model that is an ideal choice for today’s offices as well as a great investment for the office of the future.

“As companies upgrade to large format curved screens, the Reach Plus will remain a perfect ergonomic solution and is supplied with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty to ensure specifiers can select it with confidence for their evolving needs.”

CMD Ltd, the specialist in workplace connectivity and ergonomic solutions, has provided Betatrak busbar power distribution and a range of electrical accessories for two major capital investment projects at the University of Warwick.

Designed by Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios, the £33 million Faculty of Arts building is a showpiece development comprising four interconnected structures set around a central atrium, which will enable inter-disciplinary collaboration across the university’s arts and humanities departments.

The electrical installation was carried out by Derry Building Services and the plug and play benefits of a busbar powertrack system were identified as the ideal solution for the office and teaching areas from the outset. CMD’s Betatrak system was selected, with CMD’s UK manufacturing enabling an agile approach to site deliveries throughout the programme, which was delivered during COVID 19 restrictions. The original requirement included bespoke floorboxes to provide a robust solution for the student environment but CMD was able to demonstrate that the company’s one-piece, fast-fit 20 Series floor boxes met both the durability and aesthetic requirements of the project, enabling cost and time savings on the installation.

Adrian Littlejohns from Derry Building Services commented: “The CMD team worked with us to value engineer the specification to their fast-fit 20 Series product, which provided savings on both procurement and installation costs, while offering a readily available solution that fitted the needs of the building.”

CMD Ltd’s 63A standard earth Betatrak was also specified for the University’s £54.3 million Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building (IBRB), a building that will bring together up to 300 biomedical researchers from across the School of Life Sciences and Warwick Medical School. Along with the powertrack and a mix of three- and four-compartment floor boxes, this project involved 118 Rotasoc under desk modular power units manufactured by CMD Ltd at the company’s Rotherham factory.

David Hammond, Capital Programme Director from the University of Warwick added: “The university’s investment in these two buildings aims to drive collaboration in subject areas where we already have a strong reputation for excellence. We wanted to create buildings that embrace innovation and the potential for future change.”

CMD Ltd, the specialist in power distribution solutions and workstation power and ergonomics, has provided under desk and on desk power modules for the refurbishment of three Coventry University research buildings.

Located on Coventry University Technology Park, a business park designed to encourage collaboration between the university and knowledge-based businesses, the three buildings are being repurposed as office accommodation for university research teams. The refurbishment utilises the building’s existing electrical networks, while the CMD Ltd workstation power modules will bring power distribution to each desk location and provide sockets and charging at the desk.

CMD Ltd has provided 160 Elite under desk power modules for use across the three buildings. The four-gang units are individually fused for added resilience and will connect to the existing power distribution network, via the building’s existing floor boxes.

For the on desk solution, CMD Ltd has provided stylish Harmony units in anodised silver with black fascia, each of which contains two 13 amp, individually fused sockets, along with twin type A and C chargers.

Andrew Smith,  Senior Electrical Engineer at Coventry University Estates Department commented: “We have used CMD workstation power modules for under desk and on desk requirements for a number of years because we know we can rely on the quality and durability of the product, along with a service-driven approach to ensuring we have the right solution for each specific environment.

“As always, with this project, the CMD Ltd team worked with us to understand the specific needs of these research facilities and provide solutions that offer the right resilience, functionality and aesthetics for the university, and for the research professionals who will work in these buildings.”

CMD Ltd, the leading UK manufacturer of office power and connectivity solutions, has supplied almost 3km of Betatrak underfloor powertrack for the 240,000ft² 3 Arena Central development in Birmingham, along with under desk power modules, workstation power modules, floor boxes and grommets.

The grade A office building is a showpiece commercial development for the city, opening directly on to Birmingham’s new Bank Court – the centrepiece of the new public realm.

CMD’s 63A standard earth Betatrak underfloor powertrack system has been installed to deliver a plug and play power distribution network, providing both speed of installation for the electrical fit out and flexibility for the end user. CMD provided 2.4m, 1.8m and 1.2 metre lengths of Betatrak, calculating the optimum mix of sizes to enable the electrical contractor to tailor the underfloor power distribution networks to the dimensions of each floorplate. The system enables tap-offs at 300mm intervals, allowing the office areas to be configured and reconfigured to meet the needs of the end user.

CMD has also supplied a varied range of floor boxes, slab boxes and grommets for the project, including the company’s fast fit 20 Series four-compartment floor boxes. The power distribution solution from CMD has also included the supply of 2,411 Conti under desk power modules which were configured to meet the end-user’s requirements and custom manufactured for the project by CMD at the company’s Rotherham factory. The Aluminium extruded body Conti modules include RCBO protection for each workstation and have been fixed to the underside of the desk to bring the power distribution network to each user with a plug and play feature connecting to the on desk modules.

Supplying the contract furniture provider for the project, CMD has also manufactured more than 2,400 of the company’s  Contour workstation power modules for 3 Arena Central. The compact on desk modules will provide two sockets and dual port Type A and C adaptive fast charging for each workstation, completing the connection from switchboard to workstation with a complete CMD Ltd solution.

CMD’s key account manager Tim Shirt comments: “3 Arena Central is a very prestigious office building and we are delighted to have been specified for both the electrical and workstation elements of the Cat B fit out. As a UK manufacturer, we can provide flexibility, attractive lead times and high standards of quality assurance across all our products, offering a robust and varied solution for projects of this scale and scope.”
